3 Tips for the perfect pour over coffee

Pour over coffee is gaining more and more popularity among lovers of a quality coffee experience. A dripper has become one of the key tools for achieving great taste and aroma. So what you actually need for this perfect coffee experience?

1. The right coffee to water ratio

The key to good drip coffee is the right coffee to water ratio. We recommend 1:15 (1 g of coffee per 15 ml of water). However, many coffee enthusiasts prefer to experiment with different amounts to achieve the ideal taste according to their preferences. So don't be afraid to break the prescribed procedures and find your ideal one.

2. Optimal grind

The coarseness of the grind plays a huge role in the resulting taste of your pour over coffee. For drippers (Cup.sle, V60 type, etc.), around medium is usually recommended. Medium fine will bring out a stronger, sharper flavor, whereas a medium coarse may enhance the acidic palette of your brew. However, the final taste of your brew will be influenced by individual watering execution.

3. Watering technique

It is important to follow the correct technique when pouring water over your coffee. First, pour a small amount of water directly onto the coffee so that the water just submerges it. Wait about 30 seconds and top up the water. It is ideal to water in circles from the center outwards and avoid watering too quickly or too slowly. Thin and consistent pour is essential. The water should only touch the grind and not the filter. Don't expect one type of bean to taste the same every time, variations can be caused by small changes such as water temperature, first to second pour water amount ratio, pouring speed or swirling style.
